For the 10 speed (Allison TC10) it's good for linehaul (until around 45000 lbs trailers), but not for heavy weights. Also, note that IRL the TC-10 is limited to around 1850 lbs-ft in input torque, so it means that if you want to keep it realistic, the engine you would use with that transmission should not produce more torque than that. Finally The truck now comes with several transmission options, 13/18 spd, with and without retarder plus diff ratios from 3.90 to 4.00. If you have Fury6's 913/18 spd transmission mod, I found out his mod does support that truck. Also this truck comes with some engine options, DD13-15-16 and Paccar MX-13, enjoy! Short answer; More gears in your transmission helps you pull heavier loads easier and more smoothly with less power. Most people in the game, just buy a huge engine and avoid a lot of the gear issues, but if you want to run realistically with a more common 450hp engine, see below. The longer answers;

The Volvo standard transmission seems to have the highest max speed owing to it's 12th gear ratio and final drive ratio. You could replace the standard MAN transmission, for example, with the Volvo transmission in a Mod. Copy the Volvo trans file, put in a new name for the trans, rename the file for the Man and put the file in a proper MAN folder.
For regular and not heavy cargoes I use truck that has 6 speed manual transmission, but for heavy cargoes I use truck with 12 speed manual transmission. When I want to deliver heavy cargoes with 12 speed transmission, I have to use a button (in my case 7th speed on shifter) to determine, whether I want to use my gear shifter for speeds 1-6 or 7-12.
