I like to use low pile or flat rugs under dining tables. For obvious reasons, this avoids tripping when serving large plates of hot food and is easier to maneuver dining chairs. Choose an outdoor/indoor rug if you have kids – it makes cleaning up at mealtimes much easier! Choose a rug that is large enough to fit all four chair legs, even when the chairs are pulled out. Leave at least 24” of room between the backs of the chairs and the edges of the rug. If the table is extendable, select a rug size that can accommodate the table at its longest length.
